Stretched Paper Thin

Posted on 1:30 PM
Ever have the feeling you are being pulled about 700 directions at once? That's pretty much how I've felt all this week. I'm juggling:

1.) The last two weeks of Scarlet Pimpernel
2.) Rehearsals with my boyfriends ex-mother in law's church choir to sing the soprano solo in Schubert's Mass in G.
3.) Keeping an eye on Hannah (boyfriends daughter) during the day
4.) Maintaining some form of a work-out schedule to avoid becoming a cow again.
5.) Practicing 5 different arias in 4 different languages for my AVA audition.
6.) Practicing a song for an audition with Telsey & Co. casting.
7.) Practicing a song for a very last minute audition for Spamalot in NY on Tuesday afternoon.

On top of that I have my college wind symphony professor begging to borrow me for a few concerts. Turns out there just aren't that many bassoonist anymore and the songs he's lined up call for one. Nevermind the fact that I've been out of college for almost 3 years now. *sigh*

I feel like everyone has a limb and is just pulling and pulling. Anybody got some advil?

My dream roles

Posted on 7:18 PM
Just a run down of the roles I'd LOVE to play, but haven't had the chance to yet.

1.) Ursula ~ The Little Mermaid

Forget Ariel. I wanna be Ursula. The hair, the tentacles, how can you go wrong?

2.) Elphaba (Wicked Witch of the West) ~ Wicked

Again, screw the good girl. I want to be the wicked witch!

3.) Elle Woods ~ Legally Blond

I know, I know. Totally coming out of left field with this one. Despite my boyfriends complaint that this is the worst musical ever, I find it quite catchy.

4.) Marguerite ~ Faust

I'm cheating because I've actually sung this one before. But it is and will always be one of my favorite roles. The clip below is of the lovely amazing Renee Fleming.

5.) Rusalka ~ Rusalka

I'm half cheating on this one too. I sang this in my senior college recital, but not professionally. So I'm only half cheating. Again, this clip is sung by the beautiful Renee Fleming.

Welcome to the Crazy House -or- Is this my life?

Posted on 3:39 PM
Welcome one, welcome all to the Crazy House.

That's what I think I'm going to call my home now. I currently live with my gay best friend Micah. My boyfriend Rob and his daughter Hannah. Occasionally my not-gay best friend Adam stays here too. Which leads me to the question... Is this my life?

It is. Seriously. A few months ago my biggest concern was avoiding a sore throat. Not any more.

A few months ago I was married (not so happily), I had a clear career goal, and I knew exactly what I wanted out of life.

Now, not so much. I'm in the middle of a divorce (should be final in May, thank God), I'm not sure whether I want to sing opera or musicals (oh yes, that's me, opera singer extraordinaire), and as for what I want out of life.....who knows.

But let's set all that aside for a moment and let me thank everyone who's reading this. I created this to keep up with my family and friends, but also for all the lovely people I met via FF writing to see what a nut I really am!

I hope this blog will bring a bit of humor at my expense. I mean, what's the point if no one is reading and saying, "At least my life isn't THAT crazy." Right? Right? Guys? *crickets chirping* Is this thing on? *whistling*

For those who don't know me in real life (lucky bastards) let me give you the run down on the inhabitants of my crazy house.

Me (but I guess you can call me AJ): 24 years old, opera singer extraordinaire, hot divorcee, minor ocd freak. I'm addicted to designer clothes and shoes. I also have a perfume collection that makes my wallet cry. I'm a bit of a flake at times. Ask anyone.

Micah: 25 years old, show tune singing queen. Micah is my gay best friend. We've done a handful of shows together and have known each other for 15 years. My FF readers will know him as the inspiration for the very hetero vampire Micah in A Second Chance. He's easily one of the best friends a girl could have.

Rob: 30 years old, hot hot HOT opera singing stud. Okay, you may have guessed. Rob would be my boyfriend. We've only known each other for a few months, but I feel like we've been together forever (in a good way!). If I get over my fear of getting married again, I'm so going to marry this guy.

Hannah: 3 years old, diva in training. Hannah Banana is my miniature partner in crime. She's Rob's daughter from his first marriage, but she has my attitude. She's insanely cute and one of the best behaved 3 year old kids I know. She's destined to be a diva like me. She already shares my love of shoes and handbags.

Adam: 25 years old, sometimes roommate. Adam and I have known each other for 6 years now. He's one hell of a friend and an even better guitar player. He brings out my inner rock star.

I also live with a basset hound and a Savannah cat.

That's everyone who lives with me. Now onto the other important people in my life. These are people you will probably hear me mention frequently.

Bastard: That's the only name that I will use to refer to my soon to be ex-husband. He's not important to me, just my life. Because he is hell bent on making it miserable.

Mi Madre: My momma. There are no other words. She is the most important person in my life.

Kawai: Most of you will know her as another FF writer, but I know her as one of my closest friends. Even though we live something like 26 hours away (by car) from each, she's close like a sister. I will shamelessly plug her FF stories frequently. Because she is just that damn cool.

Nick: Rob's twin brother. Totally cool guy and willing volunteer to do my taxes. Brave, brave man.

I think that takes care of everyone for now. But who knows. There may be some later!

I'll try to post daily, but we all know how that goes. Also, every Monday I will be posting a to-do list for myself. I find if I write stuff down there is a better chance I'll get it done. Here's to hope....
